Amalia Mathilde Adeline, or "Mollie", was the second of five children born to German immigrants Heinrich Wilhelm ("William") and Friedericka (Wahl) Endorf on their farm near Western in Saline County, Nebraska. She was brought up in the Lutheran faith, and remained a faithful follower for her entire life. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, in 1896 and married Johann Karl Gottlieb ("John", Sr.)there on August 17, 1899. They lived on the ancestral family farm in Saline County, a little north and east of the church, and raised 6 children: Helen, Walter, Erna, Lucile, Bernard, and Donald.

Amalie Bartels, nee Endorf was born February 4, 1883 on a farm near Western. On November 27, 1958 she entered her eternal home of rest having attained the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 23 days. She attended the Zion Lutheran Christian Day School and was confirmed March 29, 1898 by the Rev. Theo Hartman.
On August 17, 1899 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Bartels at the Zion Lutheran Church at Tobias, Nebraska. The Rev. Theo Hartman officiating.
This union was blessed with six children, three daughters, Helen, Mrs. Otto Nolte of Tobias; Erma, Mrs. H. F. Schoenbeck, of Montclair, New Jersey; Lucile, Mrs. E. W. Nun of Ute, Iowa; three sons, Walter, Bernard and Donald of Tobias; twenty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Emma Schmidt of Powell, Nebraska; Mrs. Mamie Lindekugel of Spencer, S. D.; ad one brother, Theo Endorf of California.
The bereaved include her husband, Mr. John Bartels, all the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Sunday, November 30, 1958 at 1:30 P. M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, Nebraska with Rev. Edward Beckler officiating.
Place of interment, Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Tobias, Nebraska.
Pallbearers were Otto, Adolph, John F. and Edwin Bartels, Fred Heidemann and Lawrence Schmidt, all nephews of the deceased.
