Nema Hazel Tracy was born October 24, 1892 in Kearney, Nebraska; the youngest of five daughters of Addison and Ida Tracy. Mrs. Bower's grandfather was a Civil War Veteran. She attended schools in Kearney and on April 30, 1912 she married Clyde H. Bower. They both were students at Kearney Normal University. That same year they moved to Douglas to the LaPrele community to the A. G. Bower ranch. In the days of horse-drawn wagons, the Bowers were owners of one of the first automobiles in the Douglas area. They moved to Douglas in 1935 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1952.

Mrs. Bower was an active member of the First Methodist Church, the Woman's Society of Christian Service; Senior Fellowship; Missionary Society; and a charter member of the LaPrele Homemakers Club.

She is survived by a son, Bruce, of Douglas; two daughters, Maurine Hardesty, Douglas; Erma Edwards, Everett, Washington; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
