Isabelle was not quite a year old when the family sailed to
America from Liverpool to NY.NY. on the ship named ENVOY on 7~June~1830. They settled in Brush Creek Township of
Jefferson County, Ohio.

Isabelle married Johnson Murphy in Jackson County, Ohio on 22 October 1854. Following their marriage Isabel & Johnson moved to Brooke County, Va where Johnson farmed according to the 1860 Census. Their daughter Sarah Annis was born in Va. in 1854. The census indicates they were living with 50-year old Augustus Murphy, Johnson's father & his two sisters Eliza 18, & Jane 12. Johnson was a farmer & Augustus was a farm hand.

They had 6 children, only 2 survived.

MRS.ISABELLE MURPHY, OLDEST RESIDENT, ANSWERS THE SUMMONS
After ninety-six years of useful living, Mrs. Isabelle Murphy, a highly respected resident of West Wellston, closed her eyes in eternal sleep Friday evening. She had been in failing health for several years & has been confined to her bed since last December & her death was not unexpected.
Mrs. Murphy was born in Lancashire, England, May-6-1821 & shortly after her birth her parents, Mr.& Mrs.Arthur Metcalf, came to this country & located in Green Co. Pa, where she grew to womanhood. Oct.-22-1854 she married Johnson Murphy & after their marriage they moved to Jackson, until the death of Mr. Murphy separated them 7 years ago, & a year later Mrs Murphy moved here, where she has since resided making many friends who admired her for her noble qualities.
Surviving Mrs Murphy are one son, Henry Murphy of San Toy, & one daughter Mrs, Wash Rice, of Troy, Ohio, six children having preceded her in death. She also leaves a nephew & niece, Mr & Mrs Henry Carr of West Wellston who have taken care of their aunt during her recent illness.
The funeral was held from the home Sunday morning at 11: o'clock, Rev. W.F. Harbert officiating & burial was in Jackson. Those from a distance who were called here by Mrs. Murphy's death were her son & daughter, Mr. & Mrs Wilbur Framton & their children, Earl, Henry & Catherine, & Mr & Mrs Charles Snyder, San Toy & Mrs F.C. Brunton & daughter Hazel, & Mrs William Reinshaw of Jackson Ohio.

In the 1880 census Johnson & his son Johnson Henry., were working as coal miners.
We think Sarah & Johnson H. were twins.


In the 1900 census in Bloomfield township, Jackson Co Ohio Johnson, now 46 was still mining coal, in this census it was reported they had 6 children, of whom only 2 survived.

She is buried in Fairmount Cemetery- she has no headstone.
