James and his brother were given the rank of Private and assigned to Company H, 27th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry[Fuller's Ohio Brigade]. James and his brother George took part in Sherman's "MARCH TO THE SEA"
James was described as having blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. He stood 5 feet 6 inches tall. He was a farmer by trade.
