with burial in Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia.
Mr. Blumhagen was born April 24, 1915 on a farm in Bloomfield Township,
Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Anna (Schutte) Blumhagen. He died
Dec. 31, 1979 at the age of 64, in the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital,
Decorah.
He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville and confirmed at Zion
Lutheran Church, Castalia. His education was received at the Bloomfield No. 10
country school.
He was married Oct. 4, 1939 to Alice Teetshorn. They were the parents of 3
children and resided in the Castalia area all their lives.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church at Castalia and a member
of the Union Produce Board of Directors at Ossian. He had been a member of Farm
Bureau, Pork Producers Association, Beef Producers Association and had served on
the Scenic Ridge Telephone Board and as School Board Director of Bloomfield
School No. 10. He had received an Honorary Chapter Farmer degree in FFA.
His parents preceded him in death, as did a grandson, Haldain Rawson; five
brothers: Carl, Louis, George, Arno and Lloyd; and 2 sisters: Mabel and Elsie.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; 2 sons, Gary, West Union and Dennis,
Castalia; a daughter, Mrs. Karel (Joyce) Rawson, West Union; 9 grandchildren; a
brother, Henry, Castalia: 2 sisters, Elda Blumhagen, Castalia and Mrs. William
(Minnie) Bugenhagen, Luana.
