Rites Held For Carl Blumhagen

Carl Helmuth John Blumhagen, the son of Henry and Anna nee Schutte Blumhagen, was born on March 13, 1897 at Castalia. He was baptized into the Christian faith on June 27, 1897 at Postville and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Postville, on March 31, 1912 by Rev. R. Kuhne. He attended rural schools near Castalia.

On March 16, 1921, he was united in marriage with Esther Bugenhagen at the home of the bride's parents at Luana, by Rev. H. P. Kumpf. After their marriage they farmed near Ossian for 18 years, after which they moved south of Postville, where they farmed for the remainder of his life. He had been in failing health for the last year, and passed away at the Postville Community Memorial Hospital on November 13, 1967, at the age of 70 years and eight months.

Surviving besides his wife is one son, Leon of Postville and four grandchildren, Alan, Anne, Audrey and Adrian; three brothers, Lloyd, Henry and Alvin, all of Castalia; three sisters, Mrs. William (Minnie) Bugenhagen, of Luana, Mrs. Harold (Elsie) Meyer of Castalia, and Elda, also of Castalia, survive him. Three brothers, George, Louis, and Arno and one sister, Mrs, Harold (Mabel) Meyer, preceded him in death. His parents are also deceased.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 16, 1:30 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, the Rev. Lenwood L Monte officiating. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
