In 1910 he and his parents and six siblings lived on Herron Avenue in Penn Township, Allegheny County, PA. His father worked as a flagman for a railroad.
In 1920 he and his parents and three siblings--Mabel, Charles, and Virginia--lived in a house they owned at 703 Herron Avenue in Verona, PA. His father, brother, and he all worked for a steam railroad, his father as a brakeman, he as an electrician, and Charles as a laborer.
In 1930 he and his wife, their two daughters, and her mother and two of her sisters lived in a house they owned at 535 North Avenue in Verona, PA. Their home was valued at $8500 and they did have a radio. He worked as an electrician for an aluminum company and her sister Neva as a public school teacher.
In 1940 he and Twila and their daughter Patricia lived there. Their home was valued at only $4500 after the Great Depression. He worked as an electrician for Duquesne Light, with an income in 1939 of $1100 for 21 weeks of work.
