JOE S. CARSWELL, VETERAN AUTO DEALER, DIES.
Joe S. Carswell, 69, veteran automobile dealer in Boone, died very suddenly Thursday afternoon, July 23, following a heart attack some six hours earlier, He died at the Boone County hospital at 3:10 pm.
A native of Boone, Mr Carswell operated the Carswell Hammond Manufacturing company, which made motor stands and other items, for several years he operated an automobile accessory store before going into the automobile sales business in 1928 with Crary Motors. In 1933, he joined the former Olsen Chevrolet company and in 1938 opened his own business--Carswell Motors. He continued that operation until his retirement a year ago.
A veteran of World War I, Mr. Carswell was active in Arthur D. Lantz Post. American Legion: the Boone Elks Lodge, where he headed the committees on bowling and golf; the Boone Golf and Country Club where he was a director for many years and was a member of various Masonic bodies. He had served as Boone County Civil Defense chairman for about a year.
Survivors include his wife Ann, 1421 Aldrich ave. a son Brad and two grandchildren, all of Boone; two brothers, Frank L. (Chink) Carswell, of Kansas City, MO. and Howard L. (Dutch) Carswell, of Knight's Landing, CA. and a sister, Mrs Andrew T. (Adah) Smith, of Kansas City, MO.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 25th 1959, at 2:00 from the First United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Russell E. Otto in charge, Burial will be in Linwood Park cemetery.
Schroeder Funeral home has charge of the services where friends may call until noon Saturday when the body will be taken to the church.
Friends may give to a memorial at the First United Presbyterian church.
