FATAL RUNAWAY ACCIDENT - Mrs. Anna Sletten Thrown Against Telephone Pole-Skull Fractured-Lived Only A Few Hours

Mrs. Anna Sletten, an aged resident of this village, was fatally injured in a runaway accident, which occurred in the town of Zumbrota Tuesday afternoon, and died from her injuries shortly before 6 o'clock the same evening. She retained consciousness almost until the end.

The accident occurred shortly after 2 o'clock p.m. on one of the residential thoroughfares of Zumbrota. Mrs. Lars Ronningen, a niece of the deceased lady, had driven to Zumbrota to get Mrs. Sletten and take her to the Ronningen home in Minneola, and the fatal accident occurred almost immediately after leaving the home of Mrs. Thora Olson, with whom Mrs. Sletten had visited over night.

When approaching the public school building, the spirited team which Mrs. Ronningen was driving became frightened by a canvass covered rig, and ran away. Both occupants of the buggy were thrown out, we understand. Mrs. Sletten was thrown with great violence against a telephone pole and sustained a fractured skull and other injuries, which resulted in her death in less than four hours. Mrs. Ronningen luckily escaped with a few minor bruises. The injured woman was carried into the nearby residence of Mrs. Chas. Grover, where every possible care and attention was rendered her.

News of the accident was sent immediately to Mrs. Ole Ronningen of Wanamingo, who left at once for Zumbrota, being driven over by Martin Syverson in the latter's car. She arrived at the bedside of her stricken sister a short time before death released the injured lady from her sufferings.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon. Services will be held at the J. E. Swenson residence in Minneola, at 1 p.m., followed by services at Land's church, Rev. Mathieson officiating.

Deceased was born in Hallingdal, Norway, dtr. of Knut Ellingson and Anne Arnegard Loken, and was about 70 years of age. She had been a resident of Minneola township for many years. Mrs. Sletten was the sole survivor of her immediate family, husband, Ole and daughters Guri, Anne and Sissel preceded her in death.
