Edgar L. Fain

Edgar L. Fain, 78, of Athens, died Friday, May 27, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late William Ross and Otsie Mae Rodgers Fain, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Margaret Disspain; one grandson, Travis Disspain; three brothers, Brian Fain, Johnny Fain and Alvin Fain; two sisters, Dorothy Wilson and Irene Rogers; and two infant sisters.

He was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and a member of Meridian Sun Lodge 50 and Order of the Eastern Star 159. He was retired from Volunteer Energy Cooperative and was a former employee of McMinn Motors.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ollie Dannel Fain; one son, Ronnie Lee Fain of Athens; two daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda and Terry Cavett of Cleveland, and Pam and Ray Parker of Athens; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Curtis Culberson of Englewood, and Minnie Lou and Robert Best of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Wattenbarger and the Rev. Bob Thomas officiating. A Masonic service was also held on Sunday night. Burial was 11 a.m. Monday in Fain Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Mike Jones, Gary Swafford, Wayne Jarret, Rusty Ramsey, Nathan Jackson and Kris Jones.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
