Note: (The burial location is as I have it as per family)

Sarah Kenoyer married her first cousin, Samuel, a son of Michael Kenoyer.

"..She married her first cousin. Buried: Bethlehem (Bethel) Cemetery, Scotland Co, MO [NW of Rutledge]. Headstone reads: " The pains of death are past, labor and sorrow cease and lifes long warfare closed at last, her soul is found in peace".

Sarah moved with her parents to Indiana in 1837. Her daughter Isabelle said of her: "Mother spun and wove all the cloth for our blankets, dresses and overcoats, as well as "linsey" for our fancy dresses; flannel for underwear; yarn for knitting and in fact, everything we wore in those days." Sarah returned to Scotland Co., MO after the death of her husband and lived there with her son Lemuel until her death..." From "Preachers-Farmers-Pioneers, The Kenoyer Family in America, Descendants of John and Elizabeth Kenoyer" by Elizabeth Kenoyer Davis, 1971 pg 23.

HAZELVILLE.

Grandma Kenoyer, who has been troubled for some time with a cancer of the stomach peacefully passed away June 21, at the home of her son, Lemuel. Her remains were taken to Bethel, Scotland County, for interment. She was in her 77th year, had long been a member of the Methodist Church and died in the faith. Thus three in the last two weeks in our vicinity have passed on. Who will be next?

Obituary.

Died, June 21, 1898, Sarah Kenoyer, near Hazelville, aged 76 and 3 days. She was born in Ohio, June 17, 1822, moved to Indiana in 1837, and was united in marriage with Samuel Kenoyer of Dubois County in 1840, moving to Knox County, Missouri in the fall, walking from Hannibal, Missouri to four miles west of Edina with only fifty cents in their pocket, remaining only a short time here, moving to the east part of Schuyler County near what is known as the old camp ground in Scotland County, entering eighty acres of land. Here they made their first improvements without any team to aid them, remaining here about two years, when they again moved to Knox County. In 1855 they again moved to Scotland County, settling three miles north of Sand Hill. In 1880 moving to Adair County, Missouri, in 1882 to Nebraska, in 1885 moving to North Dakota, in 1891 moving to Yuba County, California, where Samuel Kenoyer died March 22, 1892, aged 72 years, 6 months and 4 days. Mother Kenoyer then returned to Scotland County, Missouri, making her home with her children here until her death. To this union thirteen children were born, of which eight are now living, four sons and four daughters. Uncle Samuel and Aunt Sallie Kenoyer, the names they were familiarly known by, were converted and joined the United Brethren Church at-the age of eighteen, and a short time afterward joined the M. E. Church, Uncle Samuel being licensed to preach at the age of twenty and continued to preach until called home. Aunt Sallie was a faithful companion and helpmate in all their labors. They were not only pioneer settlers but were also pioneer Methodists, known by many and beloved by all. Their lives were truly a benediction. Funeral services by Rev. Jesse Wilson the third Sunday in July at Bethel church at 11 a. m. Rest in peace.
