John grew up in the Perryville area. His father owned land on the Perryville-Lebanon Road, just south of town. He moved to Harrodsburg in about 1862.
John married Mary E. Waggener in January of 1864. Mary was the daughter of John C. Waggener and his wife Elizabeth England Waggener, of Mercer County. John and Mary's marriage was short-lived, as Mary died in May of 1865. As far as we know, John did not marry again.
John and Mary were the parents of one child, a son named John W. Walden. Little John was born on December 2, 1864, and died ten months later, on October 18, 1865. Little John is buried next to his mother in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
John died in July of 1898, at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and George W. Davis. We do not know where John is buried. We presume in either Boyle or Mercer County.
