Perryville
The death of Mrs. Ellen Walden Davis, which occurred at her home here Saturday about 1 o'clock removes from this end of the county one of its oldest and most beloved citizens and while Perryville and vicinity as a unit grieves over her passing it is not without hope and faith in her joys in the Great Beyond, for she was a splendid Christian woman who in her daily walk in life adhered strictly to the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Had Mrs. Davis lived until February 9th, she would have been 89 years old age, this more than four score years being spent in this midst where her reputation and Christian character came to a close without spot or blemish. The Davis home was widely known for its generous hospitality, which since the death of her companion about 17 years ago has not abated. She never neglecting the observance of the passage of scripture which says: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers," all who came to her door whether invited or uninvited guests received a hearty welcome.

She was kind and gentle in her disposition, given to much charity and motherly to all with whom she came in contact, besides she was also a very remarkable woman for despite her advanced years until stricken by a critical illness two weeks ago she attended to her daily routine of household duties arising very early each day preparing in her painstaking way the morning meal for her family.

She was married in 1854 to Mr. George Davis and they together in congeniality reared and nurtured to maturity 10 children, six of whom survive. Mrs. George Jelly, Lexington; Mrs. Willie Calvert, Miss Effie Davis, Messrs, G.T. Davis, Joe Davis, Perryville and Mr. James Davis of Louisville, who are grief stricken over her going away and who will as long as memory lasts "arise and call her blessed." One sister also survives, the aged, Mrs. Nack Wade of Mitchellsbug.

The funeral from her late residence yesterday afternoon, which was conducted by her pastor, Rev. E.L. Ockerman of the M.E. Church, was largely attended, was followed by interment in the Perryville cemetery.
