Born April 12, 1908, in Cazenovia, he was a son of Claus and Etta Benders Grafelman. He married Thelma Anthony Feb 14, 1928, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Patricia) Reinholdt of East Peoria; one son, LaVern of East Peoria; and six sisters, Mrs. Sophie Deener of Washington, Mrs. Clara Gronewald of Chillicothe, Mrs. Frieda Meyer of Creve Coeur, Mrs. Alva (Hulda) Harms of Hanna City, Mrs. Cyril (Eleanor) Feehan of East Peoria and Mrs. Lucille Jackson of Wyoming.
Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
