John Edward Evans, 63, of 627 Third Avenue SW, died Tuesday [Jun. 23, 1970] morning after a short illness.

Born July 5, 1906, at Estherville, he had lived most of his life in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the United Auto Workers, and was an employee of Link-Belt Speeder for more than 30 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Leighton (Catherine) Durr of Sandy, Ore. and Mrs. John (Mary Faith) Woodward of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Robert Evans of San Francisco and John Evans of San Bruno, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, William Evans of Estherville and Joseph Evans of Fairmont, Minn. and five sisters; Mrs. Jonathon Tucker of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Mayme Lynch, Estherville, Mrs. Lucille Reinhardt, Estherville, Mrs. LeRoy Bartleman, Minnesota and Mrs. Elizabeth O'Brien of Emmetsburg.

Services: St. Patrick's church Thursday [Jun. 23, 1970] at 9:30 a.m. by the Rev. Paul J. Maguire. Burial: Mt. Calvary cemetery. Rosary: Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. by Father Maguire at the Teachen Chapel, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday. (Cedar Rapids Gazette, Cedar Rapids, IA, 6-23-1970)
