The obituary of Philip Sigler Kimple which appeared on the front page of the Times-Republican
Thurs Feb 5,. Transcribed from microfilm # 731-X GHF obtained from the Iowa State Historical Society.

"On Monday February 15th Mr. Philip Kimple closed his eyes in death at the home of his son George in North Allerton. We fail to find the language to present the full benediction of this kindly neighbour and beloved friend at the funeral and burial. His many preferential friends stood at the bier solemnly revering his memory and sorrowing at his departure. We cannot enlarge the inscription of those assembled to tender their love for a tender and helpful live. Those who knew him well loved him best. All those present and all who knew him honoured him for his pure integrity in his business career. His example of unselfishness to the young and the old of this county should be championed in all lines of endeavour. No further comment is necessary. His life was the eloquence of noble citizenship. The burial was from the home Wednesday afternoon and the internment was at Hazel Dell Cemetery. P.S. Kimple was born in Sussex county, New Jersey June 16th 1823 and died in Allerton, Iowa February 15 1904. He moved to Ohio when a young man where he was married in 1844 to Jane Smock. In 1854 he moved to this state and in the spring of 1855 to the farm north of town where he made his home until 11 years ago when he moved to California. Returning to this place in 1902, he made his home with his son George until his death. He was four times married and the father of 18 children."
