Hannah Kimple was born in 1836, the year after her family came from Sussex Co, NJ heading for the frontier of Ohio. They only made it as far as the Ligonier Valley, Westmoreland Co. in southwest Pennsylvania where Hannah was born. Later they moved north to Indiana County renting farms and finally were able to purchase a farm in northern Indiana county near the town of Georgeville where Hannah grew up. She was the 11th child in a family of 18 children Her first husband, James Pounds, was killed at Gettysburg leaving her with 5 children. She was forced to put them in a soldier's orphanage school for several years. She remarried a civil war veteran, James Glenn, who had been seriously injured during the war. They had a daugher, Maud, but the marriage did not last. She then married a third time to George Marshall. After George died, Hannah moved to California in 1908 along with her daughters families. She remained in California until her death at age 94 and was creamated. She was the last of her family of 18 children.
A newspaper interview in California related how at age 90 she still rode horses. As a girl she loved to help break horses. She related spinning flax to make the cloth for their clothes. She was the organizer of the first country fair at Dayton in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.
