Palmer Wilton Atwood, Son of Bert and Bertha (Holthe) Atwood, was born May 1, 1925, at Shindler, South Dakota. He grew up and received his education in Sioux Falls. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served overseas during WW II. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Sioux Falls and began work at John Morrell & Company.

Palmer was united in marriage with Delores D. Mullenix on February 14, 1946, in Sioux Falls. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Sioux Falls where Palmer operated Atwood Standard Service for many years at the corner of 41st St and Minnesota Ave. After selling the service station, Palmer returned to work at Morrell's retiring in 1986.

Palmer was a member of the Church of the Holy Apostles; was a Lifetime Member of John M. Bliss .F.W. Post #628; was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans; was a member of American Legion Post #15; the Elmwood Men's Club; and the Elmwood Golf League.

Grateful for having shared his life are three daughters, Bertha Clark, Elkton, South Dakota, Bev (Rodger) Lee, Elk Point, Barb Atwood, Sioux Falls, one son, Ray "Bud" (Vicky) Atwood, Sioux Falls; 12 grandchildren; four brothers, Bert (Vera) Atwood, Harley (Eleanor) Atwood, Mearl (Elva), all of Sioux Falls, and John (Pat) Atwood, Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Evelyn (Wallace), Sioux Falls, and Ida Tidwell, Pinon Hills, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores on August 23, 1994; and infant daughter, Bonnie Atwood in 1955; a sister, Lavada Baker; and a brother, Ray in infancy.
