Statesboro - Mr. Robert Jones Bland, age 89, passed away at East Georgia Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 after a short illness. He was a retired businessman, owner of Bland Service Station, as well as a part-time farmer. He attended Georgia Southern College which was originally founded upon part of his family's farmland.

He was the devoted husband to the late Laverne Warnock Bland who preceded him in death by 19 years. They had been married 50 years at her death. Mr. Bland was a lifelong resident of Statesboro, born in 1916, the son of the late Glenn and Mattie Jones Bland. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Grady Bland, Herman Bland, and Glenn Bland, and his sister, Lonnie Belle Burgess.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Troy Rahn of Glennville, Ga. and Mr. and Mrs. John M. Hewson of Levy, South Carolina. He is also survived by a loving and faithful sister, Juanita Bland Cannon of Statesboro. He was the beloved grandfather of Franklin David Parker of Denver Colorado; Michael Robert Parker of Greenwich, Connecticut; Dr. James Troy Rahn of Eastman, Ga.; Lisa Carol Parker Fort of Savannah, Ga.; Judson Keith Rahn of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and John M. Hewson IV of Augusta, Ga. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Bland had a lifelong passion for the outdoors and he engendered that love in all of his family. He will be greatly missed. He was a Mason and a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 3:00 P.M. at Eastside Cemetery with Elder John Brannen Purser officiating. Hodges-Moore Funeral Home Statesboro.
