Hervey Porter was the son of Moses Porter and Sarah Kilham. He was born in Pawlet, VT. He married Mar. 5, 1812 to Ruth Root who was born May 14, 1794 and died at Pulaski, NY Nov. 19, 1864.
Hervey and his wife made their first home on a farm in the town of Sandy Creek, Oswego county, NY. Here five of their children were born. In 1853 they moved to New Haven in the same county. After Hervey's death, his widow lived in Pulaski, NY.
