Obituary - "Home for Christmas"

BICKNELL, UTAH - Our kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grand-mother, sister and aunt, Emily LaVell White King, age 93, was taken home to that God who gave her life on Sunday, December 21, 2003 in Richfield, Utah. She died on her oldest son, Don Emery King's birthday. Emery saw fit and was able to take Mom home for Christmas. Thanks and Happy Birthday!!!

LaVell was born January 22, 1910 in Lyman, Utah, a daughter of Henry and Emily Jakeman White. She graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1928.

She married June Syrett King, January 5, 1931 in Bicknell, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple September 9, 1931. June died December 2, 1971.

LaVell was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in all the auxiliaries. She served as Wayne Stake Relief President and Secretary. She was a teacher in the Primary, Sunday School and President of the YWMIA in the Thurber Ward. She served as the Registrar for Voting in Bicknell. She was a member of the DUP Camp Thurber where she served as Secretary. She held offices in the Senior Citizens and the Farm Bureau. LaVell loved her gardening and always had a lovely garden and beautiful yards. She loved her home in Bicknell and she was always willing to help in the community.

LaVell is survived by her children: Priscilla and Jay Anderton of Monroe; John H. and Lisa King of Cedar City; Claudia T. King of Provo; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother and sisters: Deward and Donna White of Kearns; Colleen Peterson of Salt Lake City; Faris Hatch of West Valley City. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Don Emery King who died April 7, 2002; one brother and four sisters: John Henry White, Eva Peterson, Hannah Chidester, Barbara Papaleo and Marjorie Brian.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 26, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Bicknell, Friday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
