Relationship to me: Clayton WRIGHT was my Great Grand-uncle, being brother to my Great-grandmother, Mary Ann Wright [Varker], for whom a daughter was named.

Clayton WRIGHT was born 14 June, 1808 in Rowan County, North Carolina. According to the census, he was the first son of Richard WRIGHT & Caroline KITTRELL.

Clayton had two wives - [1] Anna Snider and [2] Sarah Wiley

Clayton and Anna [B.2 Sep 1813; D.28 Jun 1851 Cocke Co., TN after the birth of daughter, Anna]] were married 13 December, 1832 in Davidson County, North Carolina. They had the following children:

Nancy Wright 28 Sep 1833 – 23 Feb 1906
Elizabeth Wright 29 Oct 1834 – 1 Aug 1912
Mary Ann Wright 3 Jun 1836 – 28 Oct 1886
Cassandra Wright 25 Oct 1837 – 25 Jul 1914
Margaret Wright 22 Feb 1840 – 11 Dec 1843
Burgess Franklin Wright 25 Nov 1841 – 23 Jun 1924
Martha Wright 6 Aug 1843 – 30 Dec 1904
Delilah Jane Wright 18 Mar 1845 – 16 Jul 1922
Andrew Jackson Wright 27 Oct 1849 – 4 Feb 1923
Anna Wright 28 Jun 1851 – 24 Feb 1852 [died at 8 mos.]

Clayton had two children by his second wife Sarah:
Richard Carter Wright 7 Aug 1853 – 17 Apr 1942
Azory 'Keziah' Wright 7 Jan 1857 – 28 Nov 1884 [Later found named as Azory Wright in Family Bible Record and marriage document].

The dates of birth for all were recorded in a Family Bible Record.

Clayton Wright's Death:
"Book A, Death Certificate No. 737; Document is incorrect giving Clayton's place of birth as SOUTH Carolina.
Otherwise everything else appears to be correct. Actual cause of death was perityphlitis [the old name for appendicitis] inflamation of the appendix.

His brief obituary read as follows "Clayton Wright died July 18, 1885 at his home; he was attended for 33 days prior to his death by Dr. John Hunt. He died of old age, senility." [at age 77]

Clayton is buried at Antioch Cemetery,(as stated on his death record) but no headstone is evident. It's believed he may have divided all his property prior to his death, as there was no will and no probate documents have been found. If Clayton and Sarah Wiley Wright had a tombstone it may have been one of the old sandstones which are no longer legible.

Information was provided 18 December 2009, by Ms Micki Faruzzi, Hamilton County Genealogical Society (located upstairs at Public Library).
