OBITUARY - Former Assessor, dies here Monday was well known farmer, merchant... Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Flatwoods, WV. Methodist Church for Jesse Skidmore, 84, who died in a local hospital of Pneumonia. The Rev. Mr. Gainer, former Methodist Minister at Flatwoods, conducted last rites and interment was in the Erwin cemetery at Newville, WV. Mr. Skidmore was born at Newville on August 27, 1858, the son of John J. and Hosey Skidmore. He served one term as assessor of Braxton Co. and also served as deputy sheriff one term. In later years he operated a farm, and general store. His wife Nancy Bright Skidmore, died three years ago. They were the parents of 11 children, ten of whom survive; H.C. Skidmore, of Clarksburg, WV., J.C. Skidmore, of Webster Springs, WV., L. R. Skidmore, Mrs. H. H. Squires and Mrs. Joe R. Radcliffe, all of Akron, Ohio; Percy Skidmore, of Jane Lew; Mrs. Cletus McCartney of Ripley; Mrs. C. H. Ware of Richwood, WV., Mrs. Preston Cutlip, of Flatwoods, and W.G. Skidmore of Sutton, WV. He is also survived by one brother Sam Skidmore, of Webster Springs; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Mayse, of Newville, and Mrs. J. L.Eubank, of Beckett, Ohio.
