Joseph Adams, known to all who knew him as "Grandpa Adams," passed away last Tuesday afternoon at his home here in Waldorf. This fine, lovable character had rounded out a life of eighty-five (85) years; years full of kindness and tenderness and true brotherhood for his fellow men. Born in Bohemia on February 20, 1841, he came to this country with his parents when he was 19 years old. They settled at Tomah, Wisconsin. On November 18, 1865, he was married to Miss Margaret Linnihan at Lyndon, Wisconsin. The following year this young couple came as pioneers to this state and settled on the old homestead farm in Freedom Township, where they lived until eight years ago when they moved to Waldorf. To this couple came seven children. Frank the oldest, died in 1910. The other six and his good wife are left to cherish the memory of a kind and patient father and an adoring, generous husband. Of his six living children, only one lived far from the family fireside; Matt Adams, who lives at Saco, Montana. Joe, Tim, Ann, Mrs. Patrick Hawkins, and Mrs. John Munsch live in this community. The deceased also leaves 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. "Grandpa" Adams spent most of his life on the farm. He sought neither political nor financial fame; he preferred to be his brother's keeper, and in this he succeeded to the state of perfection.. In this passing goes the last of the builders of the St. Joseph Church. Funeral services were held Sunday at the All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers. They were Harold, Francis, and Edward Adams; James and Cyril Hawkins; and Merlin Munsch.
