Eugene Hoffmann was born in Luxembourg May 9, 1880 and grew to manhood there. At the age of 27 he came to this country and settled at Granville, Iowa.
On 12 February 1910 he was married to Elizabeth Boever at Granville, Iowa. In 1922 the couple moved to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Elizabeth passed away February 14, 1941.
Eleven children were born to this union, all of whom survive, namely: Leo J. Hoffmann; (Margaret), Mrs. Ambrose Bertrand, (Hilda) Mrs. Lawrence Fritz all living near Sleepy Eye; (Esther) Mrs. Raymond Miller of Newton, Kansas; (Katherine), Mrs. Leonard Boyer of Newton, Kansas; Tech. Sgt. Marcel Hoffmann at Indiantown Gap, Penn., Pfc. Arthur Hoffmann of Stoney Field, Charleston, S. C. and Edgar, Leona, Betty, and Eugent Jr. at home. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Joe Mangen of Sleepy Eye.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church with Father Scholzen, Father Artner and Father Sterner officiating. Burial was made beside his wife at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Nic Lux, Frank Hemmen, Paul Bertrand, Nick Mertz, Leo Goldschmidt and Harold Berkner.
