Julia Hudnall Karnes, 96, died Thursday, June 15, 2000. A native of Ward, W.Va., she had been a Peninsula resident since 1939.

She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church, the Ruth Sunday School Class, and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary Post 176, and former owner with her husband, of Woodland Gardens.

Survivors include one son, Lee Karnes, and one daughter, Orine Griffith, both of Newport News, 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 21 great great-grandchildren and one great great great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, in the W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, in the Chapel
of W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

The family would like to especially thank the Hospice Staff of Riverside Regional Medical Center, Dr. Drew O'Neal and his staff. Arrangements by W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home.
