Theodore D. (Dutch) Baker, 55, 415 West Adams Street, Decatur, died suddenly at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital. He had been in the Clinic Hospital in Bluffton recently, was dismissed then taken to the hospital in Decatur after he was stricken.

Mr. Baker was the assistant Decatur street commissioner and was employed with the City of Decatur for 19 years. He was assistant fire chief at Decatur for two terms. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, American Legion, Volunteer Fireman and Fraternal Order of Police. He was a veteran of World War II.

Baker was born in Decatur December 10, 1919, a son of Tise and Sophia Wolpert Baker. He was married to Gyneth E. Hill July 25, 1942. Surviving are the wife; a son, David, Route 4, Decatur; a grandson, Donald; a sister, Mrs. James (Rosemary) McBride, Decatur and seven brothers, Clem J. Baker, Decatur; Richard F.,k Route 5, Decatur; Otto B. and Carl W., Route 3, Decatur; Edward J. Baker, Decatur; Daniel B., Uniondale and Anthony F., Route 3, Decatur. A son, Dennis, is deceased and a brother preceded in death.

The body is at the Winteregg-Linn & Haggard Funeral Home where friends may call. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Msgr. Simeon Schmitt officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today and graveside services at St. Joseph's Cemetery will be conducted by the Adams Post of the American Legion. Memorials to the heart fund are preferred.

Theodore (Dutch) Baker

Theodore D. (Dutch) Baker, 55, of 1415 West Adams St., assistant street commissioner and a volunteer fireman, died at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday at the Adams county memorial hospital shortly after suffering a heart attack at his home.

The well-known Decatur resident worked for the city 19 years and served as assistant fire chief for two terms.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moose, Legion and Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

Born in Decatur on October 29, 1919, he was a son of Tise and Sophia Wolpert-Baker, and was united in marriage to Gyneth E. Hill on July 25, 1942.

Survivors include the wife; one son, David L. Baker of route 4; one sister, Mrs. James (Rosemary) McBride of Decatur; seven brothers, Clem J. of Decatur; Richard F. of route 5; Otto of route 3; Carl W. of route 3; Edward J. of Decatur; Daniel of Uniondale; Anthony F. of route 3; and one grandson, Donald. One son, Dennis, died in 1949, and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Msgr. Simeon Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph cemetery.

Friends may call at the Winteregg-Linn & Haggard funeral home after 7 p.m. tonight. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday. The American Legion will hold military graveside rites, and preferred memorials are to the Heart Fund.
