Otto J. Baker, 85, of Decatur, a World War II Army veteran, died Saturday, July 4, at Adams County Memorial Hospital.

Before his retirement, the Adams County native had been employed by Prestress Services, Yost Construction Co., with 42 years of service. He belonged to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. Baker also belonged to the Decatur Moose Lodge No. 1311 and Adams Post No. 43 of the American Legion. He was a paratrooper in Europe during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Blanche; sons, Michael "Mick" of Monroeville, Daniel of Decatur, John of Ohio City, Ohio, and Samuel of Craigville; daughters, Sarah Aby and Sylvia Chilcote, both of Decatur; brothers, Richard and Carl, both of Decatur; a sister, Rosie McBride of Decatur; 14 grand-children; and one great-granddaughter. A daughter, Janet, and six brothers, Clem, Robert, Edward, Daniel, Anthony "Fritz" and Theodore, preceded him in death.

Services are 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, where calling is 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial with military rites will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
