Mary Vie Garvin Ferguson was bright, vivacious, talented and devoted to her family. She encouraged each person to be the best that he or she could be, and was very helpful to people.

She was born in Soldier, Kentucky to parents William Wallace Garvin, Sr., and his second wife Annie Bell Ham.
By 1900 the family had moved to Hazelton, Barber, Kansas.
In February 1910, her father William Wallace Garvin, Sr. passed way. William Wallace's son by his first wife Mahulda Hiatt, Robert Harrison Garvin, was legally appointed guardian of the minor children. They remained for a few years in Hazelton.

By 1920 Mary's mother Annie Bell Ham and some of the children relocated to California.

Her home was always delightful and beautiful.
She was noted for her delicious cooking, especially for her marvelous pies.

For many years she owned a costume shop in downtown Huntington Beach, Orange County, California. Her daughter Patricia Ann Ferguson also worked in the store.
Together, they built a thriving business.

Mary, her husband John W. Ferguson, their son Sam and their daughter Pat lived on Geneva Street in Huntington Beach. Each day as long as she could Mary's mother Annie Bell Ham Garvin (1861-1955) would put on her headscarf and walk from her home on Elmira Street to visit Mary on Geneva Street.

Mary loved telling about family history, and knew much ancestral information from long ago.
On one Saturday Mary told such ancestral stories to her daughter and to one of her nieces. A week later, Aunt Mary had a stroke and could never again speak, although her mind remained alert and clear.
Aunt Mary lived about a year after that Saturday, during which time her daughter Patricia devotedly cared for her.
Mary passed away suddenly and peacefully at home.
