As to Dr. John Mosley Gaddis, I can add a few details. He did attend the
Medical College of the State of South Carolina, Charleston, SC, during the
1853-54 session, but he did not receive an M.D. degree from that institution.

At that time, he stated that he was from Chunkyville, MS, and that his
medical preceptor was Dr. J. R. Hughes. In 1877, he was practicing
medicine in Floyd, West Carroll Parish, LA, and on January 14, 1878,
he attended a convention in New Orleans as a delegate. I don't know
what type of convention. He is listed in the 1880 U.S. Census as
practicing medicine, 1st & 2nd Wards, West Carroll Parish, LA.
Sincerely,
F. Terry Hambrecht, M.D.

SILVER CITY ENTERPRISE - January 22, 1892
OBITUARY:
Died: In El Paso, Texas, January 19, 1892, JOHN MOSELY GADDIS, M.D., a native of Macon, GA, aged 62 years. The doctor has been a well known and familiar character in Grant County for a number of years, and his death will be deplored. He was a western character strictly, and was a pioneer in many outlying camps. He was a graduate of of Charleston, South Carolina medical college, and has been a successful practitioner for nearly two score years.
He had been a master mason for thirty-eight years, and was at the time of his sudden demise a member in good standing of Silver City Lodge. A committee of Silver City Lodge went to El Paso and escorted the remains to this city. The
funeral will take place at the M.E. Church at 10:30 a.m. under the auspices of the masonic lodge of which he was an honored member.
The surviving members of the family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sudden affliction, with a wish unexpressed, that the winds may be tempered to the shorn lambs. The doctor, besides leaving a widow and two small children, has a son and two grown daughters in this city. Jeff, the survivor of the family name, is known and esteemed by all, while the Missess Gaddis are popular and beloved of all with whom they come in contact. "Death loves a shining mark."
