Patrick Wolf, Resident Here 70 Years, Dies
Patrick Wolfe, nonagenarian, for many years watchman at the Columbus street crossing of the Rock Island (railroad*) where he was a familiar figure to drivers, died at 6:30 last night at his home, 1825 Columbus street. Funeral services are to be held at St. Columba Catholic church, where he had been a communicant for more than half a century, at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. Interment will be in St. Columba cemetery. Mr. Wolfe was born in Ireland more than 90 years ago and spent the early years of his life there. Some of his friends emigrated to America, settled in Ottawa and he followed their lead more than 70 years ago. He was one of the very few remaining who heard the famous Lincoln and Douglas debate in Ottawa in 1858 and in the later years of his life took considerable pride in relating his experiences in the city on that eventful day. Mrs. Wolfe died in 1917. The deceased is survived by six children. They are: David, Edward, James and Walter Wolfe and Misses Mary and Margaret Wolfe, all of whom are living in this city.
