Mr. Joseph Henry DuRant died this morning at his home in the country a few miles northeast of this city, after several weeks' illness. The deceased wo was 70 years old, was a native of this community and his boyhood was spent in the town of Sumter. He was a son of the late Robert W. DuRant.

He is survived by is widow, who was Miss Sallie Jessie Reames, and four sons and seven daughters, Miss Mabel DuRant, L. B. DuRant, Mrs. A. M. Pate, of Columbia, J. H. DuRant, Jr., L. C. DuRant, R. W. DuRant, Miss Marie DuRant, Mrs. R. F. Kolb, of Orangeburg, Mrs. N. P. Buddin, Miss Jessie DuRant and Miss Hattie DuRant. One sister, Mrs. I. P. Mellett, also survives.

The funeral will be held from his late residence at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, interment in Sumter cemetery.

The following friends will serve as pall bearers:
