FORMER COUNTYAN DIES IN OTTUMWA
Mrs. Guy Martz, 67, of 911 South Sheridan avenue, died of a heart attack while mowing her lawn Sunday. She was found shortly after 8 p.m. by her grandson. The city ambulance was called and oxygen administered, but without response. Coroner Gordon Traul said death was apparently due to a heart attack and that no inquest will be held.
Mrs. Martz was the daughter of William A. and Sarepta Umbenhower. She was born October 5, 1884, in Lucas county, Iowa, but had lived in Ottumwa for the past 18 years.
Her husband survives, as do three sons and three daughters. The sons are Loren W. Agan of Ottumwa, Forest M. Agan of Ottumwa, and Clifford Agan of Des Moines. The daughters are Mrs. Mildred Clayton of Atlanta, Texas, Mrs. Naomi Witcher of Texarkana, Texas, and Mrs. Cleta Riska of Chicago.
Also surviving are a step-son, Howard Martz of Ottumwa, a step-daughter, Mrs. Harry Montgomery of Pocatello, Idaho, 20 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a brother, George Umbenhower of Melrose, and six sisters, Mrs. Adella Ritchey of Melrose, Mrs. Etta Duckworth of Chariton, Mrs. Grace Scott of Millerton, Mrs. Lester McDonald of Chariton, Mrs. Minnie Whipple of Des Moines, and Mrs. Fern Gerhart of Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Beardsley Funeral Home with the Rev. H. E. Hegstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Chariton cemetery.
