GEORGE UMBENHOWER
George Nathan Umbenhower was born in Lucas county, Iowa, Jan. 13, 1895, to Mr. and Mrs. William Andrew Umbenhower and passed away at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Saturday, Feb. 13, 1965. The latter part of his life was lived in and near Chariton.
He was united in marriage to Romita Adella Weiss on Oct. 25, 1941 and is survived by his wife, Romita and four sons: William Weiss, Oxnard, Calif.; Robert Weiss, Chicago, Ill.; Maurice Weiss, Berwyn, Ill.; Walter Weiss, Wheaton, Ill.; twelve grandchildren
He is also survived by his sisters, Mrs. Della Ritchey, Melrose; Mrs. Etta Duckworth, Chariton; Mrs. Grace Scott, Chariton; and Mrs. Fern Gerhart, Des Moines; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant daughter, Lorene, and sisters, Mamie, Lesta, Minnie, Inez and Emma.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Feb 16, 1965 at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. Homer L. Max officiated at the services. Interment was in the Coal Glen cemetery with the Albia and Chariton American Legion Posts conducting military graveside services.
