Etta V. Duckworth, daughter of William and Sarepta Umbenhower was born September 6, 1888, in Pleasant Township, Lucas County, and departed this life on February 5, 1976, at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 29 days at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital.
Etta was united in marriage to Earl Shore who was killed suddenly while working at a logging operation, soon after their daughter, Ethel, was born.
On April 7, 1912, Etta was united in marriage to Emery A. Duckworth. She leaves to mourn her passing, two daughters, Hazel McDonald of Chariton and Ethel Shore Spahn of San Diego; two sons Glen of Ft. Morgan, Colo., and Don of Mill Valley, Calif. One daughter, Elsie, preceded her to be with the Lord. She also leaves one sister, Fern Gerhart of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.
She was converted at an early age and was a member of Coal Glen Church for many years until she united with the Nazarene Church in Chariton. She was often found reading her Bible while residing at the Chariton Manor during her last few years of life.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Duane Houston, at 1:30 p.m., Monday, February 9, at the Church of the Nazarene. Interment was in the Coal Glen Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Fielding Funeral Home.
