Longtime Atlantic resident, Anna Marie Hansen, 98, passed away Wednesday,December 27, 2006 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa.
She was born January 23, 1908 in Audubon County to Neils and Christina (Petersen) Nelsen. She attended Country school until 8th grade. On November 12, 1927, she married Martin Emil Hansen. Anna and Martin celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1977, a year and a half before he passed away in 1979. Over the years Anna worked for the Modern Truck Stop, Valley Restaurant and then for Hy-Vee as a cook until her retirement in 1978. Anna was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, cooking and entertaining, floral arranging, cake baking and decorating. She loved "Jeopardy", "Wheel of Fortune" and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" and she LOVED dogs. Her favorite pet was her dog, "Spunky." The family will remember her as very loving and caring. No one ever visited Anna without being offered refreshments.
Anna Hansen is survived by her two children, Kenneth "Ken" Hansen, and his wife, Joyce and Shirley Schroeter and her husband, Rodney both of Atlantic; 8 grandchildren, Deanna Stepp of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Kenneth Hansen Jr. of Glenwood, Iowa, Theresa Hansen of Oakland, Iowa, Dwight Hansen of Fort Huachuca, Arizona, Tim Schroeter of Grand Junction, Colorado, Susan Smith of Brayton, Iowa and Amy Fellows of West Des Moines, Iowa; 18 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Faye Nelson; and many friends including Jeannie Brodersen and Bernice Ihrke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three children, Arthur, Melvin, and Dwight (in infancy); one granddaughter, Carol Hansen and one great granddaughter, Meredith Jo Fellows; and a very good friend, Astrid Andersen.
