KENNETH DEAN HANSEN

Kenneth Dean Hansen, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital at the age of 75 years following a brief illness.
Ken was born November 11, 1936 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Martin Emil and Anna Marie Nelsen Hansen. He attended school in Exira and Nevada, Iowa as well as earning a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. From 1958 to 1963, Ken served in the United States Army. He then worked as a dairy farmer and a carpenter. He was a second generation hot-rodder and had a life long love of fast cars and auto racing. He also loved computers, guns and dogs. For years, Ken was known to amaze family and friends with his feats of mathematic prowess. For many years, he served as treasurer of the Victory Baptist Church in Atlantic and attended numerous other churches in recent years. People in Atlantic knew that if they needed a hand or needed anything from a wristwatch to a washing machine repaired, Ken could do it!
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur, Melvin and Dwight who died as an infant; and his ex-wife, Gladys.
Surviving Ken are his wife, Joyce of Atlantic; a daughter, Theresa (Robert) Reynolds of Oakland, IA; two sons, Kenneth Jr. of Glenwood, IA and Dwight (Renee) of Bellevue, NE; four granddaughters, Amanda, Natosha, Ashley and Amber; three great grandsons, Dreven, Boston and Hayden; two step-daughters, Debra and Doreen of Virginia; sister, Shirley (Rodney) Schroeter of Atlantic; and several nieces and nephews.
