Woman Shot by Husband - Lancaster, PA - Nov 21 (1939)

Mrs. Gertrude Waughtel, 40, was in critical condition today, wounded as she walked towards a factory in response to a telephoned offer of a job.

The shot, Mrs. Waughtel told police, was from an automobile. Police Sargeant Ray Charles quoted her as declaring 'My husband did it.' Police are searching for the woman's estranged husband, Earl, a 41-year-old WPA worker.

They found a note in his apartment addressed to a friend and reading 'If anything happens to me, take care of Eva'. Police said Eva was Waughtel's 13-year-old daughter who lived with him.
