JohnAndrew Hawver
John Andrew Hawver, son of Peter R. and Sarah M. Hawver, was born October 8, 1859, in Fayette County, West Virginia. He passed away at his home near Stafford on June 6, 1946 at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 28 days.
In 1881 he was married to Sabine Mason in Fayette county, West Virginia. She died there August 11, 1884. To this union a daughter, Mrs. Cora Roth of Nickerson, Kansas.
On November 30, 1886 he was married to Lulu Dempsey. She passed away at the farm home south of Stafford, May 17, 1906. To this union eleven children were born. The surviving children are Mrs. Marie Figger, Mrs. Emma Garey, Mrs. Ruth Winkler, Frank, Ray, and Robert all of Stafford, and George of Joplin, Missouri. Four sons, Seaton, William, John and Joseph preceeded him in Death.
He is also survived by a brother, George Hawver, Inman, Kansas, a sister, Mrs. Lulu Lucas, Mullens, West Virginia, 22 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
He served his county as a soldier in the state of West Virginia.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
He came to Kansas in 1899, lived one year in Reno county, then came to this community where he has since made his home.
His family was always his first thought, and he was both father and mother to his small children after the death of their mother. He was a good neighbor and will be missed by many friends.
Funeral services were held at Peacockand Soice Sunday, June 9, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. S. E. Staley officiating. At Mr. Hawvers request his sons and two grandsons served as pall bearers. Six of his grandaughters were flower girls. Burial was in the Stafford Cemetery.
