Burmeister, Helen R. passed away Feb. 9, 2011. Helen was one of 10 children born to Charles Fitch, Sr. and Ethel Rose Fitch in Riverton Township of Mason County, Nov. 16, 1914. She graduated from Ludington High School in 1931 and from County Normal in 1933 and went on to Central Michigan College. She taught school in Freeman School in Freesoil and at Shelby. She married Clarence L. Burmeister of Shelby in Ludington July 24, 1941. They had 48 years together. They lived in Ludington for a few years before moving to Hart to work on a farm. Later they bought that farm and farmed it until Clarence had to retire due to his health. Helen lived on the farm until moving to Ludington eight years ago. Clarence and Helen spent many winters living in Zephyrills, Fla. She was a member of Elbridge Grange for many years, and is a member of Elbridge Community Church and the Oceana County Farm Bureau in Hart. She is survived by one daughter Sue Burmeister of Hart, two grandchildren, Sherri (Noel) Elder of Shelby and Todd (Pam) Gilbert of Ludington, three step granddaughters Kelli Edington, Debra Dill and Jerri Sauko, several great and great great grandchildren, extra special nieces, Julie Bentz (niece and caregiver) of Scottville, Wanita Bentz of Ludington and Lucille Chinnery Rogers of North Carolina, many nieces and nephews and one sister Arlene Brandt of Ludington and Muskegon. She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by her parents Charles and Ethel Fitch, Sr., one son Gerald Burmeister, one brother Charles Fitch, Jr., seven sisters Gladys Herrick, Alice Chinnery, Hazel McDonald, Bernice Rotman, Elsie Herny, Ethel Cassan, and Lucille May Fitch. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
