Obituary occurred in The News and Courier, Monday, May 25, 1987:

Robert Lawrence Ackerman, 84, of McClellanville, a retired recovery operator with International Paper Co., died Saturday in a Georgetown hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today in McClellanville Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Mayer Funeral Home of Georgetown, will be in Wren's Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Ackerman was born in Berkeley County, a son of Samuel Ackerman and Etta Bunch Ackerman. He grew up in Berkeley County and lived in the McClellanville area most of his adult life. He retired from International Paper Company after 22 years of service. He was a member of the McClellanville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are his wife, Bertha Gaskins Ackerman; five sons, R. Lawrence Ackerman Jr. of St. Louis, James T. Ackerman of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert E. Ackerman of Martinsville, Va., Charles P. Ackerman of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and William C. Ackerman of John's Island; three daughters, Bertha E. Blakley of McClellanville, Virgnia A. Cooper of Georgetown and Alice P. Cooper of Conway; 33 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
