Mrs. B.E. Mears, who died last Friday at 6 a.m., was born in Plainfield, Ill., March 28, 1869. Her maiden name was Hattie Gilbert and she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gilbert. Her parents came here while she was young and she grew up here, becoming the favorite of a large circle of friends, by all of whom she was sincerely loved and respected. She was married November 15, 1893, and her early death is a severe blow to her husband as well as to all her friends. The funeral was held last Saturday at Grace M.E. church and was conducted by Rev. G.F. Holt. She leaves, besides her husband and father and mother, four brothers and four sisters. Death was cause by congestion of the lungs and heart failure. Mrs. Fidelia A. Lane, of Gurthie Centre, mother of Mr. Mears, and Belle Graham, of Des Moines, his sister, were present at the funeral.
