Hannah Andrews was born to John and Mary Andrews, early settlers of Farmington, Conn. She married Obadiah Richards at Farmington in 1666. Her husband was a founding proprietor of Farmington in 1672 and "in 1674 he signed an agreement for the settlement of Mattatuck, and was one of the original proprietors of the town afterwards called Waterbury". In her father's will dated Jan. 14, 1681 he bequeathed to daughter "Hannah Richards, two yearlings." (Alfred Andrews, 'Genealogical History of John and Mary Andrews who Settled in Farmington, Connecticutt 1640', 1872, pp. 54, 57).
