James Virgil Johnson, 84, of Fayetteville died Feb. 25, 2002, in Benton. He was born April 16, 1917, in Wesley to William Fred and Nancy Elizabeth Culwell Johnson. He was a lifetime resident of the area. He was a Baptist minister and was pastor of churches in Arkansas and Oklahoma. He was a store owner and also sold shoes in the Fayetteville and Springdale area. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Myrl Johnson; two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty Davis and husband George and Jan Leslie and husband Tom, all of Benton, Joyce Bickford and husband Charles of Fayetteville, Kay Everitt of Fort Smith; 10 grandchildren, Rick Davis of Springdale, Greg and Steve Davis of Benton, Bob Bickford of Corpus Christi, Texas, Sherrie Bickford of Indiana, Shelley Chumley of Little Rock, Sheila Harrell of Camden, Marsha Cecil of Fayetteville, Marla Coster and Michelle Newman, both of Hot Springs; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Millard Johnson of Hindsville; one sister, Clara Sharp of Bellflower, Calif.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson's Funeral Home in Fayetteville with the Rev. Charlie Foster, the Rev. James Goff and the Rev. Bob Bickford officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Nelson's. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Westmoland, Dr. Charles Inlow, David Wilson, Dewey Whittemore and Allen Vaughn.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Springdale, 1709 Johnson Road, Springdale, 72762.
