Nancy Elizabeth (Betty) Johnson, 71, died at her home at Wesley at 8 a.m.,
February 20. She had been ill for a long time. Mrs. Johnson was born in
Washington County on June 22, 1878. She was the daughter of Abner Culwell and
Pamelia Byrd-Culwell. One of the old time citizens of the county, she was one of
the most widely known and respected citizens of her community.

Survivors are her husband, Fred Johnson, of the home; six sons, Sheridan
Johnson, a rural carrier and widely know minister of Wesley, Paul, of
Bellflower, Calif., Raymond, of Fullerton, Calif., Virgil, Millard and
Frederick, all of Rte. 2, Hindsville; three daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Scott of
Buena Park, Calif., Mrs. Ottis Sharp of Artesia, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Barrett
of Asher; four brothers, Will Culwell of Wellington, Texas, Elmer Culwell of Los
Angeles, Calif., and Virgil Culwell of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, John Culwell of
Cleveland, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Nola King of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs.
Etta Johnson of Fayetteville; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Jake Drake of Fayetteville at the
Wesley school House at 2:30 p.m. February 22. Burial was in the family cemetery
with arrangements by Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Sanders, Ernest Tooley, Alva Dorsey, Everett Boyd, C. T.
Hickman and Joe Sanders.
