"An agent for the Travelors Insurance Co. and former manager of the Providence, RI office of that firm.
Mr. Williams, husband of Helen Starr Randall Williams, died at his home. Son of the late Charles Henry Williams and Mary Ada DesJardins Williams, he had been a resident of Providence (21 Mt. Hope Ave, also where he died) for 35 years.
He graduated on the dean's list at Yale Scientific School in 1909 when he was awarded an M.E. degree. Charles married Helen on March 6, 1916 in Shelton, CT. He was a member and former member of the King Hiram Lodge, F. and A.M., also of Shelton, CT. He was associated with his father, owner of the U.S. Rapid Machine Gun Co. in Derby, CT for a number of years. He was the superintendent at Waxworks, Bridgeport, CT. Charles then went to work for the Travelor's Insurance Co. During World War 11 he was employed by the War Department as an ordinance engineer in Springfield, MA and was later transferred to Providence, RI where he worked with the War Production Board in the same capacity. He returned to work for the Insurance Co. after the war."
He was the 10th direct descendent of Roger Williams, founder of RI.
He passed away when I was only 5, but my mom told me that he loved living the simple life, adored his wife and loved just being with her. He loved his home and liked to work in and around it. His favorite pastime was playing bridge "Duplicate" and he was very good at it!
Charles and his wife were devout Episcopalians and were very involved with the Church of the Redeemer on Hope Street in Providence.
He suffered for less than a year of stomach cancer but died from a heart attack.
Charles and Helen had one son, Charles Roger Williams, Jr. and 3 grandchildren.
