Helen J. Rufer, age 82 of Monroe, Wisconsin, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at the New Glarus Home. She was born April 1, 1925 in Rock County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Wrennie and Anna (Vollman) Riese.

Helen and Lloyd J. Rufer were married on April 18, 1943 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe and they farmed in Jordan Township until moving to Monroe in 1974. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe and worked at Monroe Cheese Corporation and the Monroe Clinic.

Surviving are her children, Geraldine (Eugene) Maurer of Mt. Horeb, WI, Rickey (Mary) Rufer of Pearl City, IL, Donald (Connie) Rufer of Monroe, WI, and Gordon (Margie) Rufer of Monroe, WI; grandchildren, Tammy (John), David (Brandi), Dan (Sylvia), Mike, Scott (Sue), Amy, Eric (Heidi), Ryan, Jason (Lavinia), Jared, Melissa, Amanda, Carrie, and Cody; 17 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Alvin Riese of Monroe, Mary Coplien of Monroe, and Elmer Riese of California. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Lloyd in 1985; daughter, Delores Rufer in 1999; brothers, Roy, Forrest "Timber", Chester, Roger, and Robert Riese; and sister, Alice Wolfe.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME, 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Avenue in Monroe.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at the funeral home with the Rev. Gretchen Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe.
