Beatrice Lowe Newport,
78, of Route 1, Helenwood, passed away at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge early Monday morning, April 5, 1993, after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Columbus and Louvania Duncan Lowe; her husband, Bailey C. Newport; and an infant child. She was a member of the Low Gap Baptist Church and of Sunshine Chapter No. 279 of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Newport is survived by her daughter, Patricia Byrd and husband John of Nashville; and a very special niece she raised as a daughter, June Jeffers and husband Edison, and their son, Jerried Jeffers of Robbins; one sister, Macel Smith of Covington, Ky.; three grandchildren, Michael Byrd of Nashville, Ten Sullivan and husband Dorris, and Kimberly Hodges and husband Russell all of Mt. Juliet; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Rachel Hodges of Mt. Juliet and many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, April 7, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Smith and Rev. Carl Jeffers officiating. Special music was provided by Edison Jeffers, Geneva Cope, Keifer and Jenny Goad. Burial was in the Carson Memorial Park. Jones and Son Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.
