Authorities Await Autopsy After Finding Body Of Missing Man - Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy report to determine the cause of death of a 69-year-old man, whose body was found Friday evening in a shed on the farm of the late Dr. Milford Thompson on Bank Street in Oneida. The man, who was identified as Elwood Lowe, had been reported missing after his car was found abandoned on the railroad overpass in Oneida on May 25 of this year. Sheriff Jack Laxton said this week authorities were awaiting the results of the autopsy report to determine if death resulted from natural causes or otherwise. The body was reportedly discovered by Bob Thompson and a worker who were preparing to store a load of lime in a seldom-used shed attached to a barn on the Thompson farm. Those at the scene said Lowe was found lying face down on the ground in the middle of the storage shed, which has no floor. He was described as being fully-clothed except for his shoes. Lowe, who was reported as having been in poor health at the time of his disappearance, was a resident of the New River area. His body was discovered at a point located several hundred yards north of the point where his car had been discovered in May. Oneida Police Chief Mac Burchfield was initially contacted regarding the discovery of the body and has been investigating the incident jointly with the Sheriff's Department, T. B. I. and District Attorney General's office. The body was taken to Morristown on Saturday for autopsy. Lowe was the son of the late Columbus and Louvania Duncan Lowe and was also preceded in death by a sister, Cassie Sexton; and two brothers: Leamon and Luther Lowe. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Parton Lowe; a daughter, Sharon Thomas of Oneida; four sons: Gary and Tim Lowe of Oneida, and Roger and Terry Lowe of Helenwood; two sisters: Beatrice Newport of Helenwood, and Macel Reed of Covington, Ky.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home in Oneida, with Rev. Johnny Zachary and Rev. Hertis Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Newport Cemetery in the Low Gap area. (Source: The Scott County News, 8 Dec 1988, p1)
