Funeral for Alton Borden, 82, of Decatur will be Monday, April 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Borden, who died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at his residence, was born July 12, 1925, in Lawrence County to James Thomas "Jimmy" Borden and Lou Ella Hampton Borden. He married his beloved wife of 60 years on May 17, 1947. He was retired owner of Borden Plumbing Co. after being in business for 50 years, and was a longtime member of Central Park Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Lentz-Lowery Sunday school class. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and Rook player, and was a beloved, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Mr. Borden was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Joel Borden, five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Ophelia Borden; one daughter, Sharon Green and husband, Greg; daughter-in-law, Ann Borden; six cherished grandchildren, Pam Faircloth, Joey Borden, Kristi Green, Dusty Green, Jimmy Borden and Gary Hall; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and neighbors.
Pallbearers will be Joey Borden, Gary Hall, Dusty Green, Jimmy Borden, Lee Faircloth and David Whitten.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lentz-Lowery Sunday school class, Buster Harris, Steve Stovall, Reed Adcock and Raymond Russell.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Alacare Hospice.
